RiverLoop Public Market
Vandewalle & Associates was retained by the City of Waterloo to help with a vision, redevelopment, economic positioning and marketing of the downtown’s riverfront and adjacent properties. The vision was for newly revitalized, connected public spaces including a central RiverLoop Expo grounds and an adjacent Public Market.
The schematic for the Public Market would reuse an existing building just off the new expo grounds, outfitting the new Market with its own commercial kitchen equipment and meat locker. Vandewalle & Associates took a leading role with the concept development, business plan and architectural design for adaptive reuse of the building. V&A’s firm’s communications team put its ad agency background to work developing a range of marketing materials including interior banners, an informational/member brochure, web site messaging, creation and design of a bi-monthly newsletter, newspaper advertising, and outdoor boards.
The new RiverLoop Public Market Co-op opened to the public Nov. 11 and 12, 2011. The locally owned RiverLoop Public Market Co-op specializes in locally and responsibly-raised meat, fresh fish, and local produce, dairy, deli and bulk foods. Inside, The Loop Cafe is open for lunch weekdays and Saturdays and offers sandwiches, homemade soups, coffee, smoothies and more at its RiverLoop Cafe. Shoppers, volunteers, and members of the co-op are finding that it’s an excellent way to support the local economy.
