Brian Munson leads the Neighborhood Design initiatives for Vandewalle & Associates. Focused at advancing the art of neighborhood design, town center facilitation, and project entitlement, this team specializes in creating livable and sustainable communities throughout the Midwest. Brian has led multi-disciplinary design teams from analysis to entitlement on projects ranging from mixed-use infill/redevelopment projects to large-scale traditional neighborhoods. These projects feature a unique blend of land uses, residential options, open spaces, and pedestrian focused environments, all of which are combined to create neighborhoods that are grounded in sustainable smart growth principles, with a Midwest ethic.
Brian's experience in neighborhood design, entitlement and implementation enables him to facilitate the creation of pedestrian focused, diverse mixed-use project with a wide range of components and features. He is currently engaged in the implementation and project management of The Grandview Commons Neighborhood and Smith's Crossing, some of the largest and most complete traditional neighborhood within the State of Wisconsin. He is also involved with implementing the sustainability components of the City of Madison’s mixed use, walkable Northeast Neighborhood through the design of the Benchmark Properties. This neighborhood integrates traditional neighborhood design with system-wide sustainability with a goals of reducing vehicle trips, water use, energy consumption; and increasing infiltration.
