Brian Ellison is an urban designer specializing in neighborhood design, campus planning and tourism development. He holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with a minor in Horticulture from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia and a Masters of Business Administration from IESE-Universidad de Navarra in Barcelona, Spain.
Prior to coming to Vandewalle & Associates, Brian worked as a Planner and Landscape Architect in the Front Range of Colorado, specializing in traditional neighborhood development, community design facilitation and campus planning. His projects touched on topics of affordable housing, public transportation development, and devising viable alternatives to suburban sprawl. He was also active in campus planning projects for The University of Colorado, Fort Lewis College, and the Yosemite National Institutes.
At Vandewalle & Associates, Brian works on the neighborhood development team leading design and development projects throughout Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. He works with a variety of clients in providing a complete range of services from land acquisition strategies to representing clients through the land entitlement process. Current projects include Spring Creek Town Center in Loves Park, Illinois; Porter Road Neighborhood in Evansville, Wisconsin; and Aurora University- Lake Geneva Campus in Williams Bay, Wisconsin.
Brian also specializes in tourism and ecotourism development. For example, he has worked with the country of Sri Lanka as part of the Competitiveness Initiative for the United States Agency for International Development and was hired by the Intergovernmental organization Consell Comarcal d'Alta Garrotxa to devise a sustainable tourism strategy for the rural Spanish region. Brian also sits on the Board of Directors of The International Ecotourism Society, Washington, DC.
Through his work, Brian tries to successfully unite the needs and desires of different groups in a "Triple Bottom Line" formula that protects the environment, preserves and enhances community, and at the same time meets the economic requirements of the client, the community, and land owners.
