Vandewalle & Associates is helping position the Upper Midwest to lead the bio-based economy. Working at the forefront of a number of catalytic economic development initiatives, we are having a real impact on this important, growing segment of our region’s future economy.

Over the last 10 years, we've worked with a number of key agencies, corporations, and research institutions... identifying our region’s bio-based assets and places, then defining the activities and infrastructure needed to grow knowledge-based businesses, high-tech industries, and 21st Century economies.

We are taking an active role—from the vision, to making it happen:

• Identifying emerging bio-industry segments and sub-segments
• Identifying critical linkages and barriers to successful commercialization
• Defining the economic sector that fits the place and its assets
• Positioning a place within the regional economy
• Organizing the collaborations, and setting up the networks between state, university, and bio-based industry leadership
• Creating, and implementing, catalytic projects
• Writing white papers and developing marketing plans
• Communicating the vision and recommendations to state and federal government decision-makers
• Securing funding
• Connecting opportunities and players across geographic boundaries

For communities, cities, states, and places large and small throughout the Great Lakes Basin, this work is delivering new business sectors and a vibrant business climate that anchors the new bio-based economy to our region.
