Our fast-paced planning, design, and economic development firm is seeking an Associate Planner with strong experience in community planning and zoning. Responsibilities:
The main responsibility of the Associate Planner position will be providing on-call current planning consulting services for small- to mid-sized communities throughout southern Wisconsin, including cities, villages, towns, and counties. This position will lead and manage client relationships as the contract planner/zoning administrator for each community, working with minimal oversight and often independently. The Associate Planner must be comfortable in variety of settings and contexts with the ability to explain planning and zoning complex issues in a succinct manner to wide-ranging audiences. Responsibilities include the review of site plans, conditional use permits, rezonings, and other types of development proposals. In addition, this individual will:

• Interact with applicants;
• Participate in virtual or on-site meetings with client staff and applicants;
• Prepare staff reports for development proposals;
• Attend plan commission, village board/city council meetings;
• Prepare comprehensive plans and amendments;
• Prepare park and open space plans;
• Draft zoning and subdivision regulations; and
• Complete special studies.

The Associate Planner may manage both straightforward and complex projects or may assist other project managers on their projects. Availability for in-person night meetings in Wisconsin and northern Illinois is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have significant municipal planning and zoning experience. Minimum qualifications include a degree in planning or a related field with at least five years of professional planning experience. Experience and interest in zoning, development review, and comprehensive planning is essential. In addition, applicants should have knowledge and skills in the principles and practice of planning, complex planning issue resolution, public presentation and group facilitation, and written communication. Specific experience in project management, working on projects similar to those required for this position, and work experience in Wisconsin and Illinois is also desirable. AICP certified is preferred. Experience with multiple zoning codes from different communities is a plus.
